Lazio play terribly and only manage a draw in Venice
The team
Marco Baroni was missing Nicolò Rovella, suspended, and Taty Castellanos, injured and out for at least a month, so in came Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Tijani Noslin in their places with Boulaye Dia forming the trio in front of the forward together with Mattia Zaccagni and Gustav Isaksen. Ivan Provedel, following two bad games at Cagliari and with Napoli, was given a rest so Christos Mandas played his first league game of the season.
First half
Venezia erected a wall in front of their penalty box and pressed Lazio like crazy, not giving the Biancocelesti time to think and forcing plays. This translated into a rather boring game as Lazio were unable to come to terms with the hosts' tactics.
However in the 22nd minute the Biancocelesti had a massive opportunity to score. Isaksen to Zaccagni who gave a splendid ball to Dia in the box. He avoided Mikael Ellertsson but in front of Ionut Radu he kicked the ball over the crossbar. Even if the ball had jumped up as he was about to shoot, he should have done better.
In the 37th minute Dele-Bashiru suffered an injury and Baroni was forced to take him off a couple of minutes later. In came Reda Belahyane for his debut with Lazio.
Second half
After a Kike Perez attempt directly from a corner kick which forced Mandas into a save, in the 53rd minute Isaksen tried a shot which Radu lifted over the crossbar.
At that point, Baroni replaced Noslin and Nuno Tavares with Pedro and Manuel Lazzari in the hope of giving the team a little more electricity. Instead it was Venezia who were dangerous. In the 65th minute Alessio Zerbin on a free kick crossed into the box, the Lazio defence was motionless and Mirko Maric had a great chance but his header went wide. In the 73rd minute quick counter attack for the home side, Gaetano Oristanio raced down the pitch and from just outside the box tried a shot, Mandas with a great save managed to touch the ball with the tips of his fingers into corner. In the 90th minute Zerbin tried a shot from inside the penalty area, just wide.
Really bad match from Lazio. The only positive was Belahyane.
