Riza Durmisi was born in Ishøj, Denmark, on January 8, 1994. He is Danish from Albanian parents.

He joined the Brøndby (Copenhagen) youth sector at six years of age.

He was added to the first team squad in 2012. He played four seasons, making 107 appearances with 7 goals. The "Drengene fra Vestegnen" (Boys from West Periphery) finished 9th, 4th, 3rd and 4th.

In 2016 he joined Betis Sevilla and stayed two seasons. The Verdiblancos finished 15t and 6th (EL). His managers were Gustavo Poyet, Victor Sanchez, Alexis Trujillo and Angel Haro Garcia for the whole second season. Durmisi played 54 games with 3 goals.

In 2018 he moved to Rome and signed for Lazio. The manager was Simone Inzaghi and Lazio finished 8th but won the Coppa Italia. Durmisi only played 10 league games, 2 in Coppa Italia and 7 in the Europa League.

The following year, still under Inzaghi he did not feature at all and in January was loaned to Nice in the French Ligue 1. Lazio then finished 4th and qualified for the Champions League but without the Covid-19 lockdown could have challenged for the title.

In France Durmisi only played 4 league games and 1 in the Coupe de France, under manager Patrick Viera. The Eagles finished 5th.

In 2020 he returned to Lazio but again made no appearances and in January joined Salernitana in Serie B. In Salerno he made 5 league appearances, under manager Fabrizio Castori and the Granata were promoted to Serie A. There were several Lazio connections in the squad; André Anderson (2019-20, 2021-22, 2023 to present day), Sofian Kiyine (2020-21), Cristiano Lombardi (2016-17, 2018-19, 2021-22, 2023-24) and Guido Guerrieri (2012-20).

In 2021 he returned to Lazio. The manager was now Maurizio Sarri and Durmisi played no games before being loaned to Sparta Rotterdam in January.

In Holland he played 9 league games for the "Kasteelheren" (The Castlemen) and they finished 14th in the Eredivisie.

In 2022 he went back to Spain on loan and joined Leganés in the Segunda División. He stayed until January, playing 10 league games and 1 in the Copa del Rey. The "Pepineros" (The Cucumber Pickers) eventually finished 14th.

In January 2023 he stayed in Spain but went south to the Canary Islands and joined Tenerife on loan in Segunda División. He only played 1 league game and the Blanquiazules finished 10th.

Durmisi's contract with Lazio then ran out and he moved to Poland and played 11 league games for Łódzki Klub Sportowy (LKS) in the top flight.

He currently plays for Nea Salamis Ammochostou in the top flight in Cyprus.

Durmisi has represented Denmark at several age groups; U16s (7 games), U17s (27 games, 1 goal), U19s (15 games), U21s (9 games, 1 goal). He has won 23 caps for the main Denmark national team but has not played since 2018.

Durmisi is a left full-back but can also play in left midfield. His main strength is going forward as he has good speed and a decent left foot for crosses. He has however proved less effective defensively.

At Lazio he was not a success. He was a disappointment along with other signing Valon Berisha. Durmisi showed potential offensively but was weak when defending. He played a total of 19 matches for the Biancocelesti and was in the Coppa Italia winning squad of 2019, an unused substitute in the final won 2-0 against Atalanta.
