Game 16, Serie A
Sunday, January 12, 1947
Stadio Nazionale, Rome
Lazio Venezia 3-1
In a difficult match, Lazio win thanks to goals from Ispiro, Koenig and Puccinelli

So far, Lazio were struggling. They were 12th just three points above the relegation zone. A win today would be very important.
The match
Lazio started the game well and were immediately dangerous with Henglebert Koenig and Bruno Ispiro whose shots were well saved by Arrigo Benussi. In the 11th minute the Biancocelesti went ahead. Koenig crossed into the box from the right, Silvio Di Gennaro failed to clear and Ispiro made it 1-0.
The Venetians at this point began to control the game in the pursuit of an equaliser. In the 25th minute Uber Gradella was forced to make a great save on a Bruno Dante shot. The pressure on the Lazio defence increased and Venezia scored. In the 27th minute Mario Renosto took a free kick on the right, Francesco Pernigo headed towards Dante, ball to Valeriano Ottino, 1-1.
The second half opened with a dangerous pass back to the keeper from Romolo Alzani which shaved the crossbar. Venezia started to tire and the Biancocelesti took over. In the 68th minute Aldo Puccinelli beat Di Gennaro for speed and attempted a shot at goal. Benussi parried but the ball went directly to Koenig who put Lazio ahead.
Eight minutes later Puccinelli dribbled past Di Gennaro again, went past Benussi and made it 3-1.
Game over but it was not easy.
