A fantastic goal by Piola gives Lazio the win
So far Lazio had not done too badly this season. They were 6th on 10 points, four points clear of the relegation zone.
The match
It was cold and rainy but at least the pitch was in decent shape.
Lazio played the majority of the first half in attack but created very little, just lots of corners. Triestina did very little but what they did was dangerous. Two very quick counter attacks in the 11th and 13th minutes allowed Gino Colaussi to shoot, the first went wide and the second was parried by Giacomo Blason into corner. In the 18th minute Silvio Piola to Emilio Capri, cross into the box, Umberto Busani tried a header, ball to Giovanni Riccardi who from a favourable position shot wide. The rest of the half was rather boring with the Biancocelesti unable to put three passes together. In the 37th minute Bruno Camolese tried a shot which shaved the post. Then out of the blue, in the 44th minute Silvio Piola’s masterpiece. He got the ball at midfield, dribbled past four or five Triestina players, avoided an attempted rugby tackle, another attempt at ending his career prematurely, reached the edge of the box and with a powerful left footed shot gave Lazio the lead.
In the second half Triestina decided to make it even more difficult for themselves and in the 47th minute Ruggero Salar was sent off for a dirty foul on Capri. In the 58th, Blason was great in anticipating Colaussi after a free kick was lobbed over the wall. The Alabardato forward had a chance in the 61st minute after he dribbled past Benedicto Zacconi and Massimiliano Faotto but his shot went wide. Giuseppe Grezar had another chance in the 79th minute, saved by Blason. Busani shot wide in the 85th minute before Triestina had a chance to equalise in the 87th with Colaussi but again Blason parried.
A good win, despite not playing particularly well.
