Noslin scores a hat-trick and Lazio proceed to the Coppa Italia quarter finals
The team
Since for Coppa Italia the clubs can also use players who are not on the Serie A player list, Marco Baroni took the opportunity, necessary since Nuno Taveres was still not available due to injury and neither was Luca Pellegrini, to place Elseid Hysaj as left back. Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro and Toma Basic appeared on the bench for the first time this season.
Antonio Conte, despite Napoli not playing in Europe, decided for a total turnover and fielded a team of players who had played very little or not at all this season. Weird decision.
First half
Lazio started well and in the 7th minute Pedro crossed from the left, Loum Tchaouna tried a header in complete solitude but it went too high. In the 20th minute, a perfect ball from Hysaj to Pedro who, once in the box, tried to dribble past Elia Caprile who fouled him. Obvious penalty that not even Var could take away from us. Mattia Zaccagni took the penalty but Caprile managed to parry. The Napoli second goalkeeper is a specialist in saving penalties but Zaccagni’s shot could have been better.
This did not stop Lazio who continued to press Napoli in their half and in the 32nd minute went ahead. Corner for the Biancocelesti, Tchaouna crossed for Samuel Gigot who headed the ball towards the middle of the box, Giacomo Raspadori moved forward, Tijani Noslin stayed put and headed the ball in.
Napoli immediately moved forward and threatened Lazio. In the 36th minute David Neres dispossessed Tchaouna, possibly unfairly and ran on. He tried a shot which Christos Mandas managed to save, in came Giovanni Simeone who anticipated Patric and equalised. Lazio are Diego Pablo Simeone’s son's favourite victim, it was his ninth goal against the Biancocelesti in 16 games.
Lazio continued from where they had started and went back in the lead in the 41st minute. Raspadori was dispossessed by Hysaj, ball to Zaccagni on the left. The Lazio forward went into the box and crossed low, Pedro backheeled to Noslin who controlled the ball and beat Caprile for the second time.
Napoli were dangerous a few minutes later. Neres reached the byline on the left and crossed low for Simeone who tried a shot, Mandas was fantastic and saved with his foot.
Second half
In the 50th minute Lazio closed the game. Zaccagni from the left crossed into the box, Noslin jumped higher than the defenders and headed the ball in. Juan Jesus tried to clear it from the goal mouth but failed. Splendid hat-trick from the Dutchman.
In the 58th minute Zaccagni from the left sent a long ball to Manuel Lazzari in the box on the right. He tried a volley but it was well saved by Caprile.
In the 72nd minute Conte sent on a few of his top players, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Matteo Politano, Scott McTominay followed by Romelu Lukaku and Stanislav Lobotka, but nothing changed. Napoli put some pressure on the Lazio defence but the Biancocelesti did not have to suffer too much and a few times almost made it four, for example with a Gustav Isaksen shot in the 82nd minute that shaved the post. To note was the return of Gaetano Castrovilli who came on for Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in the 73rd minute.
On February 5 Lazio will play the winner of the tie between Inter and Udinese.
