Lazio Como 1-1
Lazio play badly and could have lost against Como. But they also could have won
The team
The derby translated into three suspensions: Mario Gila, Mattia Zaccagni and Taty Castellanos were all out of action for the game today. To this one must also add the injured Pedro, Matias Vecino and Patric plus Tijani Noslin not 100%. Marco Baroni did not have much of a choice so in came Samuel Gigot, Loum Tchaouna and Boulaye Dia.
First half
Como started very strongly and in the 4th minute Alieu Fadera on the counter attack gave a good ball in the box to Nicolas Paz who in front of Ivan Provedel tried a chip which went wide. Two minutes later Provedel was anticipated on a free kick by a Marc-Oliver Kempf header which hit the top of the crossbar.
In the 10th minute another counter attack from the Lombards. Lucas Da Cuhna went off from his own half until the edge of the Lazio penalty area, ball on the right to Nico Paz who tried a shot that went wide. Two minutes later Fadera beat Manuel Lazzari for speed, ball in the box for Gabriel Strefezza, shot, Provedel saved.
A nightmare for Lazio, completely unable to stop Como in the first minutes. Fortunately (!) Nico Paz was forced to be substituted in the 20th minute after a hard knock from Gigot. In came Assane Diao.
The Biancocelesti pulled their socks up and started to play football. In the 26th minute Gigot headed the ball on for somebody off a freekick but Jean Butez managed to avoid any danger. Four minutes later Luca Pellegrini tried from outside the box, but the Como keeper managed to save. In the 34th fourth minute Gigot passed to Matteo Guendouzi who immediately gave the ball to Dia in the box. The Senegalese dribbled past Kempf and scored. Lazio ahead, against the run of play.
Second half
Como started the second half like the first and Lazio were again in difficulty. In the 48th minute Alberto Dossena headed the ball towards the goal off a corner, Gigot saved on the line. In the 55th minute Pellegrini held Diao back by his shirt. He had already been shown a yellow card a few minutes earlier but the referee did not book him again. He should have been sent off. Four minutes later though Tremolada gave Tchaouna a second booking for a foul he did not even commit and the Biancocelesti had to play the rest of the game in ten men.
Baroni immediately took off Pellegrini and Lazzari and sent in Adam Marusic and Nuno Tavares. In the 62nd minute Ignace Van der Brempt crossed for Strefezza in complete solitude but his header was too high. In the 68th minute Lazio went on the counter attack. Marusic to Gustav Isaksen who battled with Kempf and once inside the box tried a shot well saved by Butez. Two minutes later a great chance for Fadera inside the box but his shot was saved into corner by Provedel. In the 72nd minute Como equalised. Strefezza crossed into the penalty area, Gigot and Andrea Belotti (who had just come in for Alberto Moreno) missed the ball, in came Patrick Cutrone who beat Provedel.
Baroni took off Isaksen, sent in Elseid Hysaj, and moved Nuno Tavares further forward.
Lazio tried to take back the lead but the numerical handicap and lack of tranquillity did not allow them to. In the 80th minute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in the box tried a shot that was deflected, Dia and Guendouzi were alone but got in each other's way and the chance was wasted. Not much else happened even if both teams did try to get a winner.
The Biancocelesti had struggled, but perhaps in this case the glass was half full, because Como played really well and thoroughly deserved the draw.
