Lazio Atalanta 1-1

Lazio cannot find the right key to break Atalanta’s defence

Source Lazio Wiki

The Biancocelesti so far had not been doing very well and were just one point above the relegation zone. The only positive things had been beating Inter at home and drawing away with Juventus. They had lost the derby.

The match

One cannot really say it was a good match. Lazio were missing some vital players, Salvador Gualtieri, Aldo Puccinelli and Orlando Fantoni IV, which may be a decent excuse. Atalanta could have scored early but in the 4th minute Julius Korostelev missed a sitter. In the 11th however, the Bergamaschi scored. Long pass from Paolo Todeschini for Korostelev who tried a shot, Uber Gradella parried but the ball landed at the feet of Sergio Scudeler who had no problem in scoring.

The Biancocelesti managed to equalise with Alessandro Ferri in the 22nd minute. A powerful header off a Salustiano Vidal corner.

Lazio attacked but were innocuous for the rest of the first half and basically for the rest of the game. They certainly put Atalanta under siege in their own penalty area, but nobody had the courage to take the initiative. Just a lot of passing of the ball. Things did improve slightly in the second 45 minutes when the Biancocelesti sped up their maneuver but were still harmless, frustrated by the inability of the strikers to score.

A messy, confused match, poorly played by both teams.
