Dario Sanguin was born at Selvazzano Dentro, near Padua, on December 6, 1957.

He was a product of the Padova youth sector and played for them for four years in Serie C making 108 league appearances and scoring 13 goals. In 1979 he signed for Vicenza and played a great season. He was considered one of the best midfielders in the league, so he naturally attracted the attention of the big teams.

In 1980 his dream of Serie A seemed to be laid out for him when he signed for Lazio but the club was relegated to Serie B shortly after the beginning of the pre-season training for the Totonero scandal. He stayed on and played two seasons for Lazio in Serie B. In the first the Biancocelesti just missed out on promotion when Stefano Chiodi missed a decisive penalty two games from the end. In the second the Biancocelesti struggled all year and managed to avoid relegation only thanks to the famous Vincenzo D’Amico hat trick against Varese. In the two seasons Sanguin made 65 appearances with two goals.

After a year in Perugia, in 1983 he moved to Cesena where he stayed five years. In his penultimate season for the Bianconeri, Cesena were promoted to Serie A. In the game against Juventus a firecracker exploded right near him on his way back to the changing rooms at the interval and he was unable to continue. Cesena were awarded the victory.

After having a taste of Serie A for a season, he signed for Modena in Serie C1 in 1988. After a year he moved to the coast and played for Rimini in Serie C2 for two seasons. His last five years of active football were played with Trento and Fano in the same tier.

Sanguin was an excellent midfielder, unlucky to have arrived at Lazio at the wrong moment. He certainly had the skills to deserve more than just one season in Serie A.
