Game 23, Serie A
Sunday February 3, 2025
Unipol Domus, Cagliari
Cagliari Lazio 1-2
Good win for the Biancocelesti but it was not easy.

The team
Marco Baroni had to face the usual problems with injuries, this time it was Luca Pellegrini who could not make it, so space for Elseid Hysaj. The rest of the line-up was what it should have been. Baroni had been suspended after being sent off against Fiorentina, his assistant Fabrizio Del Rosso took his place on the bench.
First half
Cagliari pulled back immediately and left the task of creating things to Lazio. The rhythm was rather slow. The home side though slowly started to become dangerous on the counter attack. In the 6th minute Nicolas Viola tried a shot from outside the box, Ivan Provedel parried into corner. Five minutes later a dangerous low cross from Gabriele Zappa into the box, Roberto Piccoli however could not get a good touch two metres from goal. In the 16th minute Lazio scored. Yerry Mina tried to clear the ball away but it hit Boulaye Dia, took on a strange high trajectory and went in over the keeper. However it had hit the Senegalese’s hand so the goal was disallowed.
Lazio continued to play at a slow pace, not creating much. A lot of mistakes from both sides. In the 33rd minute Taty Castellanos tried a shot from far out but it went over the crossbar. In the 41st minute Lazio scored. Gustav Isaksen to Hysaj on the right, low cross into the box and Mattia Zaccagni anticipated Zappa and scored.
Second half
Cagliari came back determined to equalise. In the 50th minute Piccoli in the box gave a great ball to Michel Adopo who controlled it and tried a curling shot which went over the crossbar. But the home side were rampant and five minutes later it was 1-1. Viola took a corner, Provedel thought about going for it but it was too high, Piccoli beat Hysaj and headed the ball in. Bad mistake from the Lazio keeper.
The Biancocelesti tried to react to the setback. In the 57th minute Castellanos was given the ball by Isaksen, he tried a shot, Elia Caprile saved into corner. From the corner Alessio Romagnoli headed the ball towards the goal, the Cagliari keeper saved yet again.
In the 62nd minute Hysaj had to be substituted for what looked to be a serious injury. In came Samuel Gigot and Mario Gila moved to the right.
In the 64th minute long cross from Isaksen, Dia headed the ball towards the centre, Zaccagni headed it to Castellanos who easily made it 2-1.
Cagliari threw in Gianluca Gaetano, Leonardo Pavoletti and Alessandro Deiola for Viola, Zappa and Adopo. More attacking players.
In the 73rd minute Nicolò Rovella found the gap in the Cagliari defence, ball to Zaccagni who tried a shot, great save from Caprile. The keeper was fantastic again two minutes later saving an Isaksen low curling effort.
Alessandro Deiola tried a shot from outside the box in the 85th minute but it went wide. Two minutes later in came Pedro, Tijani Noslin and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for Isaksen, Dia and Zaccagni. Cagliari replaced Antoine Makoumbou and Felici with Kingstone Mutandwa and Matteo Prati.
The home side piled on the pressure, but Lazio controlled the remaining minutes and brought the three points back to Rome.
Good win for the Biancocelesti but it was not easy.
